So as you all probably know, Project Aura has been released far and wide across the internet. As I am writing this, we have had over 57,000 views of the vimeo video in a little over a week. And it’s crazy. Too crazy. Ethan and I have been getting swamped with emails and comments about Aura and we don’t know what to do. I mean, c’mon, we’re only barely not sophomores. So this is kind of a rant to relieve what has been pent up within the confines of my head the past couple days.

So here’s the deal: I have been pushing to get an internship these last weeks, to no avail…well, kind of. It’s the same finding internship journey I am sure all of you are acquainted with: email 15 places, get one email back saying “thanks, but no thanks”, email another 20 places, get no emails back.

Finally, I got an offer at a firm in New York, but it was unpaid. So again, off on a frantic search when I realized something. Perhaps I should work on Project Aura stuff this summer? If we have had this many interested people in a matter of a week, perhaps there is something here worth pursuing. Ethan gave me the greenlight and that’s what I am going to do. What does it mean? This, in easy to ready bullet form:

  • Return to Pittsburgh
  • Work on the ID75 book (gotta get some money somehow)
  • Work for Wayne on the UX Design Tools project
  • Research and see what it takes to produce Project Aura for real

Oh yeah, it’s real world product development time. Do I know what I will be doing? Nope. If I had taken the traditional internship route, yes I would. But hey, I have time, so why not learn the most out of Project Aura while it still has some life? I feel like I’m Neo in the first Matrix when he has to make the choice between the blue pill and the red pill. Or Rebecca Black when she has to choose the front seat or the back. Either decision I take, it’ll be a bumpy ride.
